Lennan Whitlock

Lennan's antiquated speech patterns and unfailingly cheerful demeanor make him an odd presence to the people around him. But he is a person who takes genuine joy in giving other warmth and affection. This does not make him benign or harmless by any means. Due to his divine origins, his perspectives on ethics and morality tend to fall out of line with what humanity may agree or even understand. In simplest terms, he lives above all for a single-minded purpose: in the name of love. This can range from extremes such as giving up pieces of his own divinity to empower someone he loves, or going on a rampage to kill everyone who had wronged said beloved. This very same morality is also the reason he believes so strongly in telling the truth as it is, unfiltered and even painful though it may be. To him, honesty is an act of love, even if it can get brutal. That said, his more destructive and unhinged aspects are not in fact innate to his being. They are simply the products of great grief or distress. And positive influences in his life have mostly tempered the worst of his extremes. But his morality still remains off from conventional understanding. So his love, while sincere and generously given, is prone to being unsettling and misunderstood.

Though the exact details are undoubtedly different based on plot/setting, Lennan wasn't "born" so much as he was "created." An angel, a homunculus, the label for it is unclear, even to him. The fact remains that a deity of love and beauty had personally crafted him into existence. An indeterminate period of time passes before Lennan drifts about in the world on his own, either eking out a solitary existence away from humanity or simply tending to the place he was left behind by his creator. Either way, the first person he meets afterwards--basically his first memory--is Finnegan McGrath. At first, he ventures with Finnegan solely because of curiosity, wanting to see how and why Finnegan would unite his war-torn people and end their internal strife. However, as they won battle after battle, the two would grow close, with Lennan even falling in love and sacrificing some of his own power to give to Finnegan.Sadly, this would be doomed, despite Finnegan coming to reciprocate it. Right when Finnegan was about to succeed in his quest, he is assassinated. Lennan, despite his best efforts, is unable to save him. The most he can do is ease Finnegan’s pain as they promise to each other—one day Lennan will resurrect Finnegan, and they will either make things right in their homeland or venture out together anew.In his grief, and to protect Finnegan's efforts, Lennan heads out to kill everyone who had conspired in the assassination. The incident goes down in history, yet no one ever finds out it was Lennan due to no one and nothing being alive to trace it back to him. After disappearing for a while, Lennan once again ventures out. This time he does so to fulfill the promise of resurrection he made to Finnegan, but also to grow as a person and help anyone in need as he did before.
